Why are saves taking longer and longer?

It is taking longer and longer to save project files. The network hasn't
changed. The files aren't unusually large (300 tasks, 15 resources). We're
using Project 2003. What can we look for?

Followup: We have not installed SP1 yet (we thought we had, now we're pretty
sure we haven't). I've seen some other posts that complain of slowness after
installing SP1, but we can't blame the service pack yet.
