I am trying to convert several MSG files into EML format, but only some files are converting properly. A few MSG emails fail or do not open after conversion. Has anyone faced this issue before? I want to know why some MSG files convert fine while others create problems.

MSG files usually fail during EML conversion when the email data inside the file is incomplete or unclean. Two MSG files may look the same in a folder, but their internal structure can be different. One may contain a proper message header, while another may have broken HTML, missing sender details, damaged attachments, or old Outlook-based formatting.

A few common reasons are the following:
  • The MSG file was copied from an old backup
  • The email header is incomplete
  • Attachments are too large or not readable
  • The message body contains broken HTML code
  • The file name or subject has unsupported characters
  • The MSG file does not open correctly in Outlook or any viewer
Keep the failed files in a separate folder and test a few clean files first. When mixed MSG files need to be converted in bulk, Datavare MSG to EML Converter is a good fit because it handles Outlook MSG emails with headers, dates, formatting and attachments during EML export.
Run the free demo on the problem files first, then continue with the full folder after checking the results.
