Why can I only Recieve in Outlook but can't Send?

I'm having the similar problem in sending email messages as described by the
other users of Outlook and I've done basically all the things that have been
previously described. Is there a fix for this?

I CAN send email from the Outlook Express that came installed on the PC, but
I can't see any difference in any of the settings between the two programs.

State your Outlook version and "all the things previously described" that
you've done. State what happens when you try to send as well, giving the
exact text of any errors you receive.

I have version 2003 of Outlook - installed by way of Office XP Small
Business. During March I lost the ability to 'Send'. In working with my ISP
he led me through steps in Outlook 'Tools/E-mail Accounts/Change/Test Account
Settings. The checks are made and an error message comes back saying: Send
Test E-mail Message: Unable to send test message. Please verify the email
address field.

I've done this repeatedly and all looks good. I've used the existing
Outlook Express and it both sends and receives fine. I can't see any
difference between the two programs as far as any settings being any
different. Thanks for helping.....

Hi Brian - more info per your request - I've restarted the PC, checked for
any needed updates, unplugged power from the wall outlet, all to no avail.

I've also read some of the tech support info where it speaks of possible
interaction between firewalls but I don't dare go there yet..... thanks...

Hi again Brian - still more hopefully helpful info for you.
I just tried to send an actual email and the error message is - Task
'mail.<myprovider>.com - sending' reported error (0x800CCC78): 'Unable to
send the message. Please verify the email addres in your account properties.
The server responded: 530 5.7.3 Client was not authenticated.'

The email address appears correct and has no affect when I re-type it in.
Hope this helps...... regards....

The message above states your problem: you need to authenticate to your
outgoing server. Open your account properties pages and click the Outgoing
Server tab. Check the "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication"
box. If the credentials it requires are the same as those for your incoming
server, select that radio button. If they differ, select that radio button
and enter them in the spaces provided.

All this should be on your ISP's Help pages.
