Why cannot I not click on hyperlinks?

I'm using Access 2003 and I defined some columns to be of type hyperlink.

I created a query and I get a nice display, but when I click on the blue
underlined text, it does not bring up a browser like I expected.

I created a report using the wizard hoping hyperlinks in the output of the
report generator would work. They don't.

I tried the "Office Tools->Analyze with Excel" menu entry to create a
spreadsheet. I did get a hyperlink to work here after many tries.

I also tried the "Office Tools->Publish with MSWord" and that does not
create hyperlinks either.

In all cases, I tried left single clicking, left double clicking and right
clicking. With the context menu from right mouse clicking, I received a meun
with "Open Hyperlink" but that did not work either.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Siegfried

If the field is defined as a Hyperlink data type and it contains a valid
hyperlink, then it should work when you click on it. It will work in a
table, query, or form. It won't work on a report. If the hyperlink is a
valid hyperlink and it still doesn't open your browser, then I would suspect
a problem with the browser setup. What do the hyperlinks that you have in
the field look like?

They are blue with underlines. The browser (IE, just installed with
WinXP2003 Server) works with links in HTML pages fine. When I click on a
link for outlook, for example, everything works fine.
