Why can't I find book.xlt and sheet.xlt on my computer to restore.

I'm using Excel 2000 on Windows 2000 platform for my training room. I want
to be able to restore original settings after I've run a training sesssion.
Unfortuantely, I'm unable to find either book.xlt or sheet.xlt which I
understand I can delete to restore settings. Is there a reason why I can't
find them.

Book.xlt and Sheet.xlt are never created automatically and do not exist by
default. They only exist if the user creates them manually and then they
would be found where the user created them, which should be the XLSTART
folder.

However the settings in those templates only affect workbook level settings
in workbooks created from them. Many Excel settings are application level
and those are saved in the registry. Also any menu or toolbar
customizations are saved in a file with the extension XLT, for Excel 2000
usually C:\Documents and Settings\<user's name>\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\Excel.xlb. To reset menu/toolbar changes delete this
file with Excel closed.
