why can't I forward pictures or attachments? Get a red X. Help.

When I get cute photos that I would like to forward, my recipients get a red
X. If I forward to myself, I get the same thing. Have tried copy and paste,
copy and cut, forward to myself, get the red X. Waste a lot of time doing
this.
How can I fix this?

It's been frustrating for some time to either not receive e-mail with
attachments or receive them and not be able to send them with out having the
red X appear. What could be the problem?
