Why can't I insert a link to a file in the body an email?

When attaching a file to an email I used to have the option of inserting a
hyperlink to files (Word, Excel, PDF etc) on the office intranet. However I
have changed PCs and can no longer attached hyperlinks.

Any thoughts on how this can be rectified?

Set Word as your e-mail editor and choose Insert-> Hyperlink instead of
Insert-> File
