Why can't I open a file without opening program first?

Every time I open an office file (word or excel) it opens a window and asks
for my product key even though the programs are already on my computer. Now
if I open the program first then open the file there isn't a problem. How do
I fix it so I can open a file without having to open the program first?

Have you tried entering the numbers?

And think about your question - How can you open a file without running the
program? The only way would be to try to open a different program that might
be able to read the file and then you'd have no guarantees that it would
appear the way you wanted it.

I have entered the numbers. It tells me the numbers aren't correct, but
they're the same numbers I entered when I first loaded the program.

What I meant was I want to be able to open a file by clicking on it and not
have to open the program and then go to open and pick the file to open.
