I designed the entire site in FrontPage 2003. We have the domain that we
subscribed to from Hostway, and our hosting server is 1and1. 1and1 helped us
get an FTP account with the FAQs section and enable the FrontPage Extensions
on their server. We changed the nameservers for the domains [subdomain and
external]. The FTP Account connects. The folder with the site and all files
has been loaded to the remote server from the local server [not sure if I'm
using the right termonolgy there].
When I activated the FP extensions on the hosting server, it asked for a
user name and password. When I go into FP and open the site, I try to
publish it and I don't get anywhere. The FAQs on 1and1 don't help because
the example of FP they use is an older version than mine. I may be doing it
wrong for all I know.
The Remote Server type options in FP are as follows:
-FrontPage or SharePoint Services
-WebDAV
-FTP
-File System
I've been trying the FTP option and I insert the domain name in the Remote
web site location section. I have tried having the Use passive FTP box
checked and unchecked. Everytime I click OK after filling in the
information, a box pops up asking for end-user permission with a user name
and password. I give the user name and password that I gave when I activated
the FP Extensions on the hosting server. I click OK. It just clears the
password section and doesn't let me continue. When I click Cancel on the
user name box, it opens another box:
Unable to open 'ftp://[domain name here]'. Possible causes:
1. The FTP Server may be temporarily out of service.
2. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect.
3. An error may have occurred in the FTP server.
I have never published a site or anything of the such before. I don't
understand what half of the statements the programs make are referring to.
If anyone could explain or help me out, it would be greatly apreciated.
