Why can't I see my inserted images in Word document?

I am presently using MS Office Pro Ed 2003 with SP1 installed. In the past I
was able to see my images that I placed in documents, but for some reason or
another I am no longer able to. I can only see the "handles" around it when I
click in the location of the document where a graphic/picture is supposed to
be, or if I have inserted it in the middle of some text (without it being
where my cursor is) I can only see a black frame (basically an empty box)
around what should be a viewable image.

I have always been able to either use, (from the menu) - Insert/Picture/From
File OR I typically use CTRL C and CTRL V for cutting and pasting. It is
inserting something, but whatever it is, I can't see the actual graphic or
picture anymore.

What has gone wrong? How can I correct this?

Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Try: Tools - Options - View, ensure that Drawings is enabled, and that
Picture Placeholders is turned off.

Yep, that was the ticket! Thanks so much Herb. It has actually been stumping
me for several months AND now I realize it was MY OWN FAULT. When I installed
(upgraded to MS OFF ProEd 2003), I remember having turned that switch
(checkbox) ON, but the light never came on relating to the results I was
getting.

You're terrific! Thanks again.

No Light Terry

PS: Great webpage too!
