Why can't I see my inserted picture any longer? I can see it when

i have always been able to see the picture when inserted into a word doc.
I can not now. Any Ideas on why this may have happened.
I can see it when in edit but all that I see in the Document itself is the
Blank square not red x.

Is [x] Picture plaeholders turned on in
Tools=>Options=>View?
