Why can't I update WBS Predecessor field?

I believe that when I first added the WBS Predecessor field to my GANTT chart
I could enter either a predecessor or a WBS Predecessor for a task. Now I am
completely unable to make any updates to the WBS Predecessor field. It seems
to be only derived and not directly enterable.
