Why can't the email recipient open a submitted form attachment?

I am currently using the Microsoft Infopath program and have designed a form
for customer relation purposes. I have enabled the submit button to send the
completed form to the customer relations officer but when he tries to open
the attachment it says that the program can't be found. I have added my own
email to the submit functions and I am able to open the attachment without
any difficulty.

Sargrant,
Does your customer relations officer have Infopath Installed on his/her
machine?
and if so do they have the template for the form you created registered on
their machine?

Ben,

Yes he has the infopath program but no it is not registered on his computer.
Knowing this now am I going to have to publish it in order to get it to work
on all the computers or register it to all the infopath programs on each
computer?

Sargrant,
There are a number of ways to publish the template file however it is worth
noting that the .xml file your are emailing to your users has a path in it
that points to the location of the template.xsn with this in mind

1: You can publish the form template to a SharePoint form library.
2: You can publish the template to a shared foler on the network (based on
the sound of your solution this sounds like it could be a good option)
3: you can use the RegForm utility to deploy the form template to each of
the users machines

As stated above publishing the template file to a shared directory may be
your best option that way if any changes are made to the template you don't
need to manually to to each machine on the network and make updates. As long
as each machine has access to the shared location, your forms should open.

If youre still having problems let me know and I'll put up some info on my
blog for you

Cheers

Ben,

Thee is another issue that I wanted to bring up. The form that I have
created is for a Hospital and there are 18 computers for the patients to
utilize and the information that you gave me for them to use the program
interally was great. However our goal is to publish this form to the
Hospitals Intranet and Internet pages so that the patients can utilize the
form at their earliest convenience.

I know from reading some of the other threads that in order to use the form
the users have to have the program. Does this apply to internet and intranet?

Is there another program that will allow me to design a form with similar
functions that doesn't utilize that particular program to open it?
