Why did Outlook 2002 on XP lose my custom fields when I backed it

I backed up my Outlook to pst file and then restored it. All my custom fileds
had gone. On top of this all the views were reset with standard fileds and
were not the way I had them beofre.

I had to delete custom fileds in contact forms that I had created (they were
still there but Outlook was not picking up the data for the customised views)
and create them again and then recreate my views using the new custom fileds.
Why did it do this? It also would not link from the contact in my
appointments to the contact record form and I had to delete these links and
re do them all. ( over 100 )

I don't understand why it has done this and there was a lot of calender
links to re do. Can anyone throw some light on this for me. ---- help!!!!

What procedure did you follow when you backed up and restored? You should
have just copied the PST file to a backup location, then copied it back to
the original location. Exporting and importing does not handle custom views
or forms and will break contact links.
