why do I have to type http:// in IE?

For some reason my address toolbar is not working when I just type in the
sight name and .com. (i.e. google.com) it will only work if I first put
the http://www. first.

Any ideas?

Try Emptying your Temporary Internet Files cache
In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
On the General tab, click Delete Files.
