Why do my Office programs take for ever to print?

As I understand it, you also had the same problem with Win 2000. Now
what I want to know is why upgrading to WinXP didn't solve the problem!
Are you using the same machine as your old Win 2000 machine? Does this
mean the upgrade process didn't do the necessary repair work?

I hope the problem is solved because waiting 20 minutes is simply not
acceptable in a fast moving world!

So let me get this straight...
1. You applaud Gateway and HP for incorrectly blaming Microsoft
Office software for your computer problem, and
2. You denigrate Microsoft for wanting to charge you to fix your
computer problem that is not attributable to Microsoft Office software.

HEY, Guess what? The system recovery didn't work...oh well. After all of that
I followed the suggestion one of you made and started up in Safe Mode. When
attempting to print the Office document in safe mode an error came up
indicating that there was no printer connected. When I clicked on install
printer I got the erroe message that there was no spooling service
available...or somehting like that. Sorry, I'm working frommemory now in
terms of the exact error message. But it did indicate something to do with
spooling service. In normal mode the printer is listed and spooloing is set.
So, does any of this ring a bell?
Thanks,
Jerry

maybe you need
to cycle that spooling service
to disable then enable and reboot

go to start > run > services.msc

They say that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and
over, but expecting different results.

I'm not sure where this fits in, but I'm sure it does. ;-)

Or, maybe it's just Windows' way of crying "Uncle!"

I'm glad it's fixed!

A final note.
As I have said before, I'm not the sharpest tac on the computer bulletin
board but I like to think I'm one of the more persistent?!
After BOLDLY announcing that I'd finally fixed the problem with another
reinstall of the print driver. I found that the problem returned the next
day. OK, wake up boy, what did you just do? I installed the C.A. anti-virus
software!!! Never crossed my mind before because I've used most of the other
antivirus programs around from Norton to AVG and never had a problem. But
after consulting C.A. they tell me that there have been issues with their
software and HP printers. They have a fix for it which I have downloaded and
it took care of the problem.
Thought you all would like to know. Thanks again for all the help! It's very
reassuring to know that there are folks like you all around!!
