Why do my Office programs try to connect to the Internet?

Each time I start Word, Excel, Outlook etc they try to connect the Internet
(remote IP address 127.0.0.1). It is a problem because I pay each time we are
connected to the Internet and it is becomming expensive. How can I turn this
off?
