Why do OLE files take so much more space in ACCESS 2003 vs 2000

I am using ACCESS 2003. I imported a database from ACCESS 2000. The linked
OLE objects (predominantely pdf files) that I imported take significantly
less space than the objects that I am inserting in 2003. Does anyone know how
why and how it may be overcome?
