Why do pages appear humongous on some monitors ?

R

RIOSoft

I have developed several Front Page 2002 Web Sites at a monitor resolution of
1024 x 768. The page margins are set to zero. I ensure that the tables widths
are set to either 100% or a combination of various cell that add up to 100%
of the page width. I didn't find anything within the Front Page HTML that
would casue a problem. You can go to my newest client site
[www.electricaltradetools.com] to view my problem. Help ! Please ignore the
fact that you will see a forward from my domain [www.riosoft.net], I am in
the process of setting up the hosting for my client.

The first table on the page looks exactly the way I would expect a 100%
table to look. But the second table is a fixed width -

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border-collapse:
collapse" bordercolor="#111111">

or rather no width, which is not the same as 100%.

Is that what you mean?

I just checked the Front Page web site table widths and I think I am a bit
confused. Can you provide a little more detail ?

The outer table is 100% width. Nested within it is the next table which has
no width assigned - hence it is the width of the contents - <font
color="#044A98" face="Edwardian Script ITC" style="font-size: 34pt">Welcome
To</font><font face="Arial" color="#044A98" size="6">&nbsp;&nbsp;
T</font> - which will only appear as you want on computers that have that
font installed since it's not a websafe font.

Stacked below that is a third nested table which also contains no width -

<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="border-collapse:
collapse" bordercolor="#111111">
<tr>
<td bordercolor="#044A98" style="border: 1px solid #044A98"
bgcolor="#E0EEFE" width="487">
<p style="line-height: 150%; margin: 10" align="justify"><b>
<font face="Arial" color="#044A98" style="font-size: 11pt">THANK YOU FOR
VISITING THE </font>

These two bottom tables (having no width) will collapse around their
contents - the widest of which is about 980px - that's how wide that bottom
table will always be.

Is that more helpful?

Hello,

I changed every table to a 100% width and made sure that each cell was set
to 50% of the table width. The only table/cell/item are the photographs which
are set to x number of Pixels. I changed my monitor resolution to 800 x 600
and the web page was larger than the screen. I had to use the scroll bar to
the right to see the entire web site. Should I be developing Front Page web
sites via a 800 x 600 monitor resolution ? My clients are viewing the site at
an 800 x 600 resolution...

Your images must not be wider than the resolution you wish to target, otherwise users will have to
scroll. For 800, keep you images to 750 pixels or less.

If you will take a look at my client's site [electricaltradetools.com] I
developed, you will see, (if viewing at 800 x 600) that the right scroll bar
is present. I am not sure why ? I have applied a 100% table width to each
table and a 100% or 50% cell width to all cells within each table. I just
checked each photograph and not one photgraph is near (or over) the 750
pixels you mention. Please take a look at the original posting and every
posting thereafter. Please Help...

You have the following:

images/HP_Level.JPG @ 486 pixels wide in the left column
images/HP_Drywall_Saw.JPG @ 448 pixels wide in the right column

Together they total a width of 934 pixels.
