Why do saved documents have red exclimation point icon?

H

Hello_Ewe

When I go into my folders I'm noticing that some of my documents have either
a green check mark icon next to them or this scary looking red exclimation
(spelling?) point next to them. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get rid
of it or resolve the problem.

Hi 'Ewe',

It can depend on what file types and version you're seeing this on. If you save, for example a Word 2007 document in .docM format,
an exclamation point on the right side of the file icon indicates it can contain 'active' content such as macros. You might also
have a security/compression or other software utility or feature (among other reasons) that shows a status by means of an icon.
(hard to tell without seeing the icon <g>)
