Why does Access 97 say "Out of Memory" on XP

I have installed my old Office 97 software on my new Windows XP home edition
system. When I start the Access 97 program it immediatly says "Out of
Memory" and aborts. Since it ran on a much smaller Windows 98 system, I
doubt it is really out of memory but rather an incompatibility with the XP
system, and I hope someone is aware of a solution other than switching to
Office 2003. I have used the Office 2003 that came with my system and I
liked the old system better.

I am an old dog who would like to do his old tricks in his new home.

Now that I have posted the question, I see that it has been answered before.
My previous searches came up with Zip, now there are answers everywhere!
