Why does Adobe open my .docx files?

I upgraded to Office Home & Student 2007 but can't seem to open the .docx
files that are sent as attachments in email. PLease help!

If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is trying to open the file, your file
associations got twisted somewhere along the way.
