why does archive fail?

After importing all folders, messages, rules etc from Outlook Express into
Outlook 2000 archiving fails to work. It goes through the motions and creates
a pst file of only 32KB which should be more like 1GB but does not delete any
of the old messages (luckily in this case). All the settings are done
correctly for each folder and in Outlook. Where is the problem?

The import process from OE creates items with a null date. Null dates are
treated as a calendar year 4501 so they are never eligible for archiving.

A solution is to Export from OE to OL, modified dates then retained.
