Why does it take Word 2002 so long to close down?

All of a sudden it is taking my Word 2002 up to 20 seconds to initialize and
about the same time to close down. I recently installed a new version (2006)
of Norton System Works but have disabled the MS Office plug in option in NAV.
Can anyone tell me why?
