Why does my computer hang when I double-click on a Word document?

My wife has noticed that whenever she tries to double-click on a Word
document either on her desktop or My Documents, her computer hangs. What's
going on?

I just had a similar problem when double-clicking on a file in Windows
Explorer. I posted the question on another Forum and was directed to the

In our case, it turned out to be the Norton Anti-virus Office Plug-in that
needed to be disabled. However, your symptoms are a little different but
hope you find something at this site that helps.
