Hard drives, and any other computer hardware, can fail for many reasons. For
example, if you do not have a surge protection for everything that is plugged
into your PC, including a phone line or cable modem, your hard drive may have
suffered some damage due to a voltage spike. If you hear any strange noises
coming from your hard drive, you've probably got minimal remaining time to
back up any important files before it dies.

You posted your question to a newsgroup that is intended for questions
related to using Microsoft Access, the database software. This is not a
general Q&A newsgroup for any and all computer-related problems.

Modern hard drives send signals to the motherboard when they are about to go
bad. The bios then communicates this to you during startup. My advice
BELIEVE IT! It is rare when something else is wrong (like a loose
connection). Before doing anything else, backup your drive.. Don't turn your
machine off until you do, it may never start again.

BTW, this is a Microsoft Access newsgroup, not a hardware group. You may
find better answers in a group specifically designed to handle your problem.
