Why does my Word lock up when I try to paste something?

I tried to paste a notation from a website into a Word doc today and it
locked up. This is the 3rd or 4th time. This is a brand new computer and a
brand new copy of Office XP. I am seriously considering Mac. This is
flipping ridiculous.

I have to question "brand new copy of Office XP." It hasn't
been sold for two years... Was it an internet bargain?

Oh, oops. I'm using Windows XP but the Office is 2003. I was confused...
