Why does new email go into the Unread Mail Folder?

And how do I stop it? When I switched to Comcast last week I thought I wasn't
getting new mail and then found it all the Unread Mail Search Folder. I
didn't set up this folder myself, and when I open an email there it
automatically goes into the Contacts Folder, which I also didn't set up, at
least not consciously! All I want is for my new mail to go into the
appropriate folders that I set up five years ago when I got my computer. And
I want this stupid Contacts Folder to go away.
And why am I getting duplicate copies of the same mail?
Comcast, of course, is no help whatsoever.
What's going on here? Thanks!

The Unread Mail folder is a Search folder. It displays unread mail in
whatever folder the message happens to be in. You can easily remove it from
the Favorites pane. Personally I find it much easier to use than having to
constantly be opening the folders which contain the mail......you can have
rules to move messages to other folders, but they all show in the Unread
Mail search folder, no matter what folder the rule has moved it to. Much
easier than wading through masses of folders to read your unread mail...

How do you mean "when I open an email there it automatically goes into the
Contacts Folder,"? I've never seen THAT behaviour before, especially as the
Contacts folder just contains err, Contacts......

You need a Contacts folder because that is what contains your
err.....contacts.....
