Why does <none> appear in the sort box?

Hello,

I received an e-mail from a friend and when I opened it, another e-mailed
entitled "none" opened up at the same time. It caused my Outlook to quit and
when I re-opened the program, my inbox was empty and in the sort box where it
usually reads "today" or "last week" it read "none". And it is staying that
way even thought I have received e-mails. The e-mail that my friend sent me
was also in the deleted items folder. Is there a way I can change my
settings and retrieve my e-mail? Or was I hit by a virus? Thanks!
