Why does Office 2003 Standard Edition run so slowly?

Office Standard 2003 slow

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 on Dell Dimension DIM 4500
Intel Pemtium 4 CPU 2.40 GHz, 256 MB of RAM

One reason could be that you're only running 256 meg of RAM? I'm running a
bit more than that on a 6 year old PC.
