Why does Outlook 2002 show my messages as read?

I'm having a problem with Outlook 2002 that is driving me crazy.

If I have a list of unread messages in the message list that are showing
bold, if I single click on one without opening it (using a double click) the
message status changes from unread to read - eg the message title goes from
bold to standard text. I don't want Outlook to do this as I want to see all
my unread messages as bold (indicating unread) until I open them.

I've looked through all of the options but can't seem to find the setting
I'm looking for. I use Outlook 2002 at work and if I single click on a
message on my work PC the above behaviour does not happen. However, I can't
seem to find what is different on my work PC that doesn't make ths happen on
my home PC.

Can somebody help? Please accept my apologies if this is a simple qustion
that shouldn't be on here.

ALL questions are good. Well, except for the person who asked us to write a
thousand word essay for them. LOL
OK, all the settings for this behavior are here:
In Outlook>Tools>Options>Other>Reading Pane (button)
I'm worried this is NOT going to help you much because I believe you're
asking about ALL unread messages changing when you only highlight one. These
settings are supposed to control the behavior of messages on an individual
basis.
Maybe the "Repair" feature would work for you, if you have it available.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!

My problem was fixed by exactly what you suggested - I never thought of
looking in the preview pane options!

Now, about that 1000 word essay....

Thanks again.
