Why does running my video cause powerpoint to close?

I have inserted several videos in a powerpoint presentation that would run
without any glitches. They still run in windows media player and real player
but when I try to play them in powerpoint it causes it to crash. I have
windows XP and Power Point 2003.

Read the following, with particular attention to section 3. There's a good
chance that Real Player has modified your MCI settings and they'll need
repairing. I don't allow Real Player on any of my systems.

i have a similar problem though embedded videos run fine in
slide show mode but in regular mode they run but when i try and stop them
the system gives a message that is trying to close something but never lets
me out of that dialog box and I have to end and restart powerpoint. ANY IDEAS?
