Why does "Save As" not respond in Office Word 2003?

I installed Office 2003 and when in Word, and want to save a document, I
select "Save As" but after waiting a significant amount of time, nothing
happens. I try to reclick, but then I get the "program is not responding."
I have uninstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled but the problem persists. I
have run numerous scans using Norton Systems 2006 and XoftSpy to no avail.
Both of these I have run regular as well as "Safe Mode." This is a true
pain.

Can anyone suggest a cure?

You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell
after you install security update MS06-015

a simple registry fix. Note: You may need to temporarily disable your
antivirus program in order to safely run the scripted fix.

If you have done any windows XP updates. Sorry but I dont remember the
update number but one 2-3 weeks ago will cause that very problem. All I
needed to do was uninstall the update and powwwww it works corectly. Give it
a try
