Why does the £ not show in email

When I type an email in Outlook, the £ and the Euro sign both show as a ?
when the email is sent to the recipient. How can I stop this from happening?
I think it is 97 I am using.

Perhaps the recipient doesn't have the font that you're using to compose the
message and so doesn't have those characters.
