Why does the cursor shrink in Word? How do I get back to normal?

Cursor Shrinkage

Periodically the cursor appears too small (1/2 size). Then just like it
screwed up, it goes back to normal size after a few days. This is an
irritating glitch in Word. Has someone figured out what's going on? And how
to fix it immediately. It's fine in all other programs.

We don't know what causes it, but switching to 500% zoom and back
again seems to cure it most times.
