Why does the toolbar disappear when word is closed?

We've set a custom toolbar with the specific icons/buttons necessary for our
job. Works great until Office products and/or the PC is restarted. When the
Office products are reopened the toolbar and or icons/buttons have
disappeared and must be set up again.

Any suggestions?

Is Adobe Acrobat 7.0 installed on the computer? If yes, then the
Acrobat 7.0 Create Adobe PDF toolbar add-in for Word prevents
Word from automatically saving changes to the normal.dot template
(which is where toolbar customizations are stored). See

solutions to the problem.
