why does this appear when i hit the = sign : =[ or[=

When in excel, I hit the = and it comes up [= or =[ and it never did that
before and I have to clear it or it wont allow anything

Sounds like you're hitting the Equal key and the key below it at the same
time. If that is not the cause, then I would say you have a bad keyboard.
