Why Does Word Keep Launching Dial-up Connection?

I recently did a "repair" install of Office 2003.

Now, everytime I launch Word (or Excel, or PowerPoint, etc.), Dial-up
Networking prompts me to Connect, and I have to stop whatever I'm doing
to Cancel.

I would like this annoying behavior to stop.

These programs never behaved this way previously.

I already configured Office Help to refrain from seeking internet
content. What else can I try?
