Microsoft Office products are sold separately. They are not included
with the Windows XP operating system.

The most that Windows XP has is WordPad (Start | All Programs |
Accessories | WordPad). Word, PowerPoint, Excel are part of the MS
Office suite which is a separate product. You college may have an
academic discount to purchase Office or look into Office Student and
Teacher edition. You can also look into the free OpenOffice
(www.openoffice.org).

Your system doesn't have any of those programs because you chose not to pay
for them. You bought a computer from a discount retailer and never asked
what you were getting. Office is now going to cost you about $400 on top of
that cheap system you bought at a place where you can also buy your (sorry
guys) feminine hygiene products. Think about it - does that REALLY make
sense?

It looks like you've just learned a valuable lesson outside of college.

Geez JoAnn, lighten up. She's asking for help - she doesn't need a lecture.
Life is too short...

I thought I was being rather honest with her. She asked why her system
didn't have Word. I explained it in simple terms. Life is too short to go
along with your eyes closed and depending on others to help you along.
