Why Excel cells print as dots/pixels when using shade option?

Excel 2000 - All of a sudden, after formatting cells in shades of gray by
using the toolbar shading icon option, the printed version shows the shaded
cells as dots/pixels only and not complete gray. Why is this happening? It
has never happened before in any of my other worksheets.

DPI setting on the printer change?

Printer properties option make sure you have the correct settings
