Why is a 130kb Visio insert increasing my Word doc. size to 8MB?

Grace

I'm copy and pasting Visio diagrams into my word document.
The Visio document is only 130kb, the Word document (without diagram) is
40kb - when i insert the Visio diagram, the Word doc size jumps to 8MB (even
when i compress picture).

It seems to have only started happening since i got the full version of
visio (was using trial version before that). How can i stop this from
happening?

Thanks

Hi Grace,

If you use Edit=>Paste Special in Word what format
is Word using as the default paste method? If you're
embedding an Object it's more than just the graphic.

You may want to try exporting/saving the graphic from
Visio to your drive then using Insert=>Picture from File
as a test.

You may also want to check in File=>Save that you're saving
as a Word is in the 'Word document' file format.

Hi Bob,

A long time ago I had a similar problem importing VISIO to WORD. It was
"bloating" the document also. I seem to remember that I exported the VISIO
to a PNG file and then inserted that file into word. The resulting doc size
was more tolerable. I do not know why this makes a difference but it is
worth a try.
