Why is a document "unavailable" when I try to open it?

Nige

Installed latest tech beta release of Office and now I am unable to open any
documents whether new or existing. When I try and open them I get an error
message saying the file is unavailable. Any clues? Is my Norton System Works
2005 causing an issue?

Hi Nige,

In the Symantec-Norton System Works/Antivirus product in the Miscellaneous tab, see if turning off the 'Office Plugin' then
restarting the Office apps lets you open the documents.

Thanks,
I too was also at my wits end after installing the tech beta release.
Couldn't open any exsisting files, except Visio they all said my anti virus
software had found a problem with the files. Even new files that were
created after the tech refresh was installed wouldn't open file not found. I
hope Microsoft and Symantec make nice before this goes product ships!

I read that yesterday, that's why i put the quip in about Symantec and MS.
Sounds like the days when MS wouldn't give Netscape the code for windows.
