Why is my Access 2000 database slow to open and close ?

This problem started recently and I cannot understand why. Any suggestions ?

There are several possible reasons, but the first that I'd check is your
anti-virus program. Turn it off and see if it improves. If it does, you can
usually exempt certain files from scrutiny.
