In my drawing toolbar, my list for arrow style and lines are grayed out. Why
and how do I fix it??

First two possibilities that come to mind;
1- A document must be open for the tools to be active,
2- The doc must *not* be Read Only or Protected.
If neither of those issues are where the problem lies, try going to
Tools>Customize - Toolbars, click the *name* of the Drawing toolbar, then
click Reset.

No nothing is selected.
The insertion point is at the beginning of a row. There is a graphic on the
page. But I have also tried on a blank page.

The first two didn't apply sense I was creating the document from scratch.
I did what you suggested and reset them.
and that didn't work either.
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the whole program and that
didn't do the trick either.

I also noticed after I made the orginal post that it isn't just the arrow
styles that are grayed out. But the Line style and the dash styles are grayed
out as well.

Line weight and arrow style palettes are not available unless you have a
line or arrow selected.

None of these are available unless you have a line or arrow selected. You
have to draw the line first, using the Line tool.

I figured we'd get there eventually. <g> What you can do, however, once you
have a line drawn, is choose the desired line weight and arrow style, then
choose Set AutoShape Defaults on the context menu. From then on, every line
you insert will be the same weight and style. Use this option with care,
however: users sometimes set the AutoShape defaults for text boxes with No
Line and No Fill, not realizing this will affect *all* AutoShapes, then
wonder why their lines and circles are invisible!
