Why is my cursor jumping around the page when I type?

It is making it impossible to write anything. The cursor constantly jumps to
other places on the page. "T T cps to other places ursor constantly jum"
This is how the prior sentance typed without me correcting. Help!

1. Keep your wrist, arms, sleeves, etc off of the touchpad.

2. Check to see if the microphone is on. If so, turn it off.

I've had to completely disable the touchpad on my laptop because I'd brush
it with the heel of my hand and inadvertently delete slides -- and not even
realize I'd done so. The second time it happened I figured out what I'd
done...
