Why is my "Hyperlink" menu option grayed out on the Insert menu?

I would like to insert a Hyperlink on a Power Point slide. However, the
"Hyperlink" menu option is grayed out. What do I need to do to have that
option available?

A hyperlink has to be attached to something. Click on an object or
highlight some text and then choose Insert Hyperlink. It will attach the
hyperlink to that object or text.

Wrong! You can't select Link when It's greyed out! How do we get it to be selectable?

I think that you have to select a single object on your slide to be able to create an Hyperlink.
Hyperlink option is grayed on when you select a group of objects.

have you found a solution to this? Specifically - I am working in PowerPoint online and trying to hyperlink text boxes to specific slides in the slide deck. Have selected a single text box/shape and it is still greyed out. I can do it in desktop version but my organisation is moving away from desktop version and I need to find the solution to this ASAP.
