why is my USB 'write protected'?

C

Carey Frisch [MVP]

Because its a storage device. In order to modify or work
with a file, copy the file from the USB device to your
hard drive.

I suffer this problem trying to transfer stuff to/from a work machine under
XPPro. I have tried to USB sticks, each is R/W on one machine, but write
protected on the other. i.e. I have to use one device for one way, and the
other for the other. I suspect this occurs because I am in Admin on my home
machine, and the work machine may be something else. Work guru is away, and
not available to ask.

What I really need to know is how can I remove the write protection, ther
should be a way. WhenI try to add a new file, modify an existing one or
delete it the system answers: The disc is write-protected, use another disc
or remove write protection.
There MUST be a way. I have worked as adninistrador and as normal user and
haven't found the way, even the "help program from microsoft displays this
information. Does anybody can help us???

Hardware problems should be posted to hardware groups. This is not one of
them.

This is a Microsoft Office newsgroup, not related to hardware. The answer
should have helped you. Post in a hardware-related newsgroup.

There may also be help in a group related to your specific version of
Windows. It may be an XP issue.
