Why is the "Edit Picture" command grayed out in Word XP?

I'm trying to edit photographs that I inserted in Word XP. When I do this in
Word 2000 I right-click the photo and select "Edit Picture" from the menu
list. In Word XP, the command "Edit Picture" is grayed out. What am I
missing here?

Hi C.,

A Word 'picture' is a graphic type that would not, generally
include a bitmapped graphic such as a photograph. It can
be used for adding annotations (as can dragging the photo onto
the MS Word 2002 Drawing Canvas (Insert=>Picture=>New Drawing)
and you can use the picture toolbar to do things like crop,
resize, brighten or change to greyscale, but Word is not
a graphic editor.

Hi, I have the same problem now that I have XP. With older versions 2000 and
before, I could right-click a picture or screen print that I inserted and
edit it with lines, circles, boxes etc.

under extras / options you can set msword to be the graphics editor. This
is the case with me, but when I right click a screen print that I have
inserted into a document the (right-click) "Edit-Picture" is grayed out. If
I insert a screen print with msword-2000, then open it with msword-2003
(right-click) "edit-picture" is visable and I can edit the picture with word.

This is something I need when outlining problems with different systems or
creating manuals.

Where is the problem with msword-2003 ? Is there some setting or filter
that I've overlooked?
