activating this via internet i could not do this because there was a "limit"

This newsgroup is for discussions specific to the MS Project project
managment software so for more information you might want to post in the
Office specific groups. But to answer your question, the license for the
regular retail versions of Office requires you to purchase a separate copy
of the product for each individual computer you install it on. So the rule
is you must buy a copy of Office for each computer you own - 3 computers
means you buy 3 copies of Office at full price each. There is an exception
in that you are allowed to install each license on one desktop plus one
"portable device" such as a laptop you might also own (but if that CD came
with an OEM computer such as HP or Dell, it's only valid for use in case you
need to reinstall on the same computer it shipped with and the portable
device exception does not apply). From what you write it sounds like your
CD key has already been installed and activated on one computer. If that's
the case you may not install it on another without removing it from the
first one and calling MS to request they reopen the key for reactivation.
The other option is to purchase one of the volume licensing arrangements but
they are usually way too expensive for an individual user owning just a few
computers to consider.
