Why must I "type characters in an image to send e-mail message?"

I keep getting this message, can't read the "characters" as they are usually
stacked on top of each other, and am tired of trying. Do I need to change a
setting that has so far eluded me?

Where are you typing this? Outlook doesn't have such a feature.

This sounds like a Hotmail issue. It sounds like you are required to respond
to a "CAPTCHA" ("Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers
and Humans Apart") request. I am not sure what triggers the request. I've
only had to do it once in the last couple of years. Perhaps the volume of
email you send from the account. The purpose is to foil scripts (called,
"bots") from using an account in violation of the TOS.

You need to ask in a Hotmail forum.
